If you want to do more than view documents on your Kindle Fire HDX, consider using the built-in app called OfficeSuite Pro (see the following figure). This productivity suite for Android gives you the ability to create, view, and edit word processor, spreadsheet, and presentation files. The popular Microsoft Office suite products Word, Excel, and PowerPoint are supported in this app.

Opening a document in OfficeSuite Pro

When you open OfficeSuite Pro, you have access to the three apps contained in it: Document, Spreadsheet, or Presentation. To open a new, blank document, tap any of those three apps.

To open an existing document, tap Recent Files, My Documents, Internal Storage, or Remote Files to locate a file and then tap the one you want to open. Here’s what these folders contain:

• My Documents contains files from your Docs library.

• Internal Storage provides access to all your Kindle Fire folders, such as Music and Books.

• Remote Files lets you add a remote online file sharing site account such as Dropbox and SkyDrive and access files stored on them.

Using editing tools

When you have a document open in an app, tools run along the bottom of the screen (see the following figure). Here’s a quick rundown on some of the tools you can use to format selected text:

• Font: Tap the far-left tool with double A’s and you can set font style such as Heading or Quote, font family such as Calibri, and font size.

• Bold/Italic/Underline: This popular trio of text formatting tools help you emphasize certain text in your doc.

• Font Alignment: Tap any of three tools to align text left, centered, or right.

• Lists: Use the Bullet List or Number List buttons to style selected text in lists.

• Indent: You can indent or outdent text relative to the doc margins.

There are also buttons for a quick spell check and printing on this toolbar.
